YRK Labs is a fine art printing and imaging studio in Metro Vancouver, built for artists and photographers who need more than a standard lab workflow. We combine meticulous colour management, custom capture systems and high-end retouching with a collaborative process that adapts to the work — not the other way around.

Our custom-fabricated motorized XY capture platform allows contactless, multi-image digitization far beyond the limits of a single camera frame, with lighting tailored to the surface and intent of each piece. For printing, materials and production workflows are rigorously tested, profiled and quality-controlled so the result remains predictable from proof to final edition.

Art digitization

Ultra-high-resolution reproduction for paintings, drawings and mixed media, with capture and lighting tailored to the work.

Artwork is captured contactlessly on our custom-fabricated motorized XY platform. Instead of limiting a project to a single camera frame, multi-image capture allows us to build a master at the resolution the artwork and final use actually require.

Lighting is equally adaptable. We recommend the approach based on the surface and the artist's goals — from cross-polarized capture for controlling specular glare to UV or UV-cut, soft, hard, directional and raking configurations. Texture can be emphasized, suppressed or preserved, and glare can be managed rather than simply accepted.

The result is a colour-managed archival master designed for reproduction, publishing, licensing and long-term preservation, with advanced retouching and finishing available when required.

Fine art printing

Museum-quality giclée on archival paper and canvas, with hands-on proofing and material choices we can actually explain.

Our print workflow is built around measurement, verification and repeatability. Paper-specific profiles are developed by a specialist fine-art colour practitioner using multiple high-end measurement systems, then integrated with our own rigorous QA, resolution testing and controlled production workflow.

Before an edition runs, clients can proof with us, compare materials and refine the file until the finished print serves the work as intended.

03  —  35mm and medium format

Film & negative scanning

High-resolution medium-format camera scanning for 35mm and 120 film, built for accurate colour, natural grain, high dynamic range and flexible files.

Our system combines a custom-profiled medium-format camera with a specialized RGB light source designed around the spectral characteristics of high-end film scanning. ANR glass keeps the film consistently flat, while Rodenstock reproduction optics provide exceptional sharpness and field uniformity.

The result is a high-resolution, high-dynamic-range file with the organic character of the film preserved rather than altered by scanner interpolation. RAW capture files are also available on request for clients who want maximum downstream flexibility.

Specialty imaging

We print your image, then re-photograph the print — texture, subtle colour shifts, and the kind of imperfection you can't fake with a filter.

Choose the paper and the print becomes part of the picture: canvas weave, rag tooth, baryta sheen. The re-capture happens under controlled light, so the effect is repeatable when you want it and surprising when you don't. Popular for album art, editorial, and photographers after a signature finish.

Information we collect

We may receive information you choose to provide when you contact us or request a project, including your name, email address, phone number, project details, artwork or image information, and files or links you send for evaluation. If you become a client, we may also keep records reasonably required to prepare estimates, invoices, production notes, delivery information and project history.

How we use information

We use personal information to respond to enquiries, prepare quotes, provide printing and imaging services, communicate about projects, arrange pickup or delivery, maintain business and tax records, improve our services and protect the security of our website and operations.

Website and third-party services

Our website may be hosted or supported by third-party service providers that process limited technical information needed to deliver the site, such as IP addresses, browser information and server logs. Links to third-party websites, including social platforms, are governed by those services' own privacy practices.

Artwork, photographs and project files

Client originals and digital files are handled for the purpose of completing the requested work. We do not claim ownership of client artwork or photographs. We will not intentionally publish client work as portfolio or promotional material without permission or another lawful basis.

Retention and security

We retain information only as long as reasonably needed for the purposes described above, legal or accounting requirements, project continuity and legitimate business records. We use reasonable administrative and technical safeguards, but no method of electronic storage or transmission can be guaranteed to be completely secure.

You may ask us to access, correct or delete personal information we hold about you, subject to legal and business-record requirements. You may also ask questions about how your information is handled.

These terms apply to YRK Labs estimates, printing, digitization, scanning and related imaging services unless a written project agreement says otherwise.

Estimates and approvals

Website calculator results are estimates only, shown in Canadian dollars unless stated otherwise, and may exclude taxes, shipping, special handling, restoration, unusual file preparation and custom production. A project is not confirmed until scope, pricing and timing are accepted. Proof approval authorizes production based on the approved proof and specifications.

Client materials and permissions

You are responsible for ensuring that you own or have permission to reproduce, scan, print or otherwise process the materials you provide. YRK Labs may decline work where ownership, authorization, safety or legality is unclear.

Colour, materials and reproduction

We use colour-managed workflows and careful quality control, but physical materials, displays, pigments, papers and viewing conditions have inherent limitations. Some original colours, finishes, fluorescents, metallics, textures or optical effects may not be exactly reproducible. Natural variation may also occur between substrates, batches and production runs.

Client originals and files

We take reasonable care with originals, negatives and digital files entrusted to us. Clients should retain backups of digital files wherever possible and disclose fragile, valuable or unusual materials before work begins. Any special insurance, handling or transport requirements should be agreed in writing before delivery to the studio.

Turnaround and delivery

Turnaround times are estimates and can vary with proofing, revisions, material availability, project complexity and circumstances outside our reasonable control. Shipping and courier services are provided by third parties and may be subject to their terms.

Payment and unclaimed work

Payment terms will be stated on the applicable quote or invoice. YRK Labs may require deposits or full payment before production or release of completed work. Please arrange timely pickup of originals and finished work; special storage arrangements may be required for items left for extended periods.
